| Reverse description | Detailed depiction of the Brussels Town Hall (Hotel de Ville) on the Grand-Place, rendered with meticulous architectural detail including its soaring Gothic spire and ornate facade. To the upper left, a stylized star motif accompanied by a globe symbolizes the 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Expo 58). The date '1958' appears to the left of the spire, and the denomination '50 F' is prominently displayed to the right. The engraver's signature 'C. VAN DIONANT' is inscribed along the lower exergue. |

Belgium's 1958 World's Fair — the first held after World War II — was a deliberate act of postwar optimism, staged in Brussels under the theme "A World View: A New Humanism." The Soviet and American pavilions faced each other directly across the grounds, making the Atomium an unlikely neutral monument between Cold War exhibitors. This commemorative was struck for that event during Baudouin's relatively early reign, the king having ascended only in 1951 following his father Léopold III's forced abdication over wartime collaboration controversies that had nearly torn the country apart.
A parallel issue carries Dutch text — the French and Dutch versions were produced in equivalent quantities for Belgium's linguistic communities.
