Additional information

The UAE's first coin series, issued from 1973, appeared just two years after the federation's founding — a period when individual emirates still operated semi-autonomous economies and a unified currency was a political statement as much as a practical one. The series was designed and struck at the Royal Mint in the UK before domestic minting infrastructure existed.

The 1973 inaugural issues are notably scarcer than later dates in the run.
