Obverse description Central field bears two Manchu script characters flanked by four Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform pattern, reading top to bottom and right to left. The entire central motif is enclosed by a circular band of additional Chinese ideograms forming the principal legend. The inscriptions identify the issuing province, the reign period of the Guangxu Emperor, the denomination, and the weight standard of 3 mace and 6 candareens. The design is executed in a flat, recessed relief characteristic of late Qing provincial coinage.
