| Obverse description | Two effigies of Prince Rainier III of Monaco depicted at two distinct and significant moments in his life, positioned to the left of the field, evoking both his youth and his mature years as sovereign. The dual portraits reflect a commemorative tribute to the centenary of his birth, rendered in a refined medallic style. The legend and date frame the composition. |

This piece is part of the ongoing French mint program commemorating Monaco's Grimaldi rulers, issued well after Rainier III's death in 2005. Rainier reigned for 56 years — the longest of any Monégasque prince — and his tenure saw Monaco transform from a near-bankrupt principality dependent on casino revenue into a diversified financial hub. The Monnaie de Paris holds the longstanding contract to strike Monégasque coinage, a relationship formalized by treaty and unchanged through successive reigns.
