Issued as part of the Monnaie de Paris "Grands Hommes" series, this coin commemorates Marcel Dassault on the centenary of his birth — though Dassault himself was born Marcel Bloch in 1892 and didn't adopt the name "Dassault" until after World War II, taking it from the wartime alias of his brother, Resistance fighter Paul Bloch-Dassault. He survived Buchenwald. The aircraft manufacturer he built after liberation became one of the most commercially successful defense firms in French history, producing the Mirage and later the Rafale.
