Part of Monnaie de Paris's long-running "Masterpieces of Notre-Dame de Paris" series, this issue commemorates the 19th-century restoration and expansion work associated with the cathedral's iron-framed structural elements and the grand glazed galleries added during that campaign. The series as a whole was produced under a licensing arrangement with the cathedral chapter, with individual releases targeting the collector market almost exclusively — circulation was never a practical consideration at this metal value and mintage level.
