| Additional information |
Switzerland's 2003 pattern was produced as part of the broader European Currency Institute testing program that evaluated candidate designs and alloys ahead of potential eurozone expansion. Switzerland, of course, never joined — but several member and candidate states commissioned official probe pieces that year, and Swiss participation in the testing reflected ongoing monetary cooperation agreements rather than any serious accession intent.
The brass composition here was one of several alloy configurations tested for vending machine and automated reader compatibility across participating mints.
