Additional information

This piece belongs to Austria's "Crown Jewels" gold series, which drew on the imperial regalia and associated iconography of the Habsburg dynasty held in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. Judith II — wife of Henry II, Duke of Austria — is a figure whose historical record is thin enough that her inclusion reflects the series' interest in dynastic objects rather than the individuals themselves.

The .986 fineness is notably purer than the .900 gold standard used in most classical European coinage, placing it closer to the bullion end of the collector spectrum despite its numismatic presentation.
