Additional information

Vatican euro coins dated 2014–2016 fall within the sede plena issues of Francis, elected in March 2013 following Benedict XVI's unprecedented resignation — the first papal abdication since Gregory XII in 1415. Because Vatican coinage is struck in strictly limited quantities for collector sets rather than general circulation, annual production rarely exceeds a few tens of thousands of pieces across all denominations, making even routine dates genuinely scarce by eurozone standards.
