| Obverse description | The obverse features a portrait of Miguel de Cervantes, renowned author of Don Quixote and celebrated as the father of Spanish literature, depicted in period dress with a quill pen in the field. The legend ESPAÑA appears above, accompanied by the royal mint monogram, and the year of issue is inscribed within the design. The entire composition is encircled by the twelve stars of the European Union, rendered in relief against the coin's field.
