Reverse description The reverse displays the second-series common European design, depicting a full geographical map of the European continent extending beyond the boundaries of the coin's field, rendered against a dynamic background composed of fine line engravings. The twelve five-pointed stars of the European Union are arranged in a semicircular group at upper left, overlying the map. The denomination 50 EURO CENT is inscribed in the upper portion of the legend, and the designer's initials LL, for Luc Luycx, appear in small characters within the field. The design replaced the earlier first-series reverse in 2008 in accordance with the EU's standardised reverse redesign for all euro coinage.
