Obverse description The obverse reproduces the design of the original 1780 Mexico City Mint 1 Escudo gold coin of King Charles III of Spain, presented as a coin-within-a-coin motif set within a polished proof field. At the centre, the right-facing armored bust of Charles III is depicted in the style of the colonial milled coinage, with elaborate drapery and a truncated shoulder. The circular legend of the original coin, CAROL · III · D · G · HISP · ET IND · R ·, flanks the effigy, accompanied by the date 1780 below. The outer border of the modern commemorative coin carries the additional inscriptions ESPAÑA 2025 at the top and 1 ESCUDO 1780 MEXICO along the lower arc, clearly distinguishing the contemporary issue from the historical prototype.

Reverse description The reverse faithfully reproduces the design of the reverse of the original 1780 Mexico City Mint 1 Escudo gold coin, presented within a polished proof field as a coin-within-a-coin composition. At the centre, the crowned quartered arms of the Spanish monarchy are displayed, featuring the castles of Castile and the lions of León, flanked by the assayer and denomination marks 1 S. The circular legend of the historical coin, M · Mo · IN · UTROQ · FELIX · A · D · FF ·, surrounds the shield, with the mint mark Mo visible. The outer border of the modern commemorative coin carries the face value 50 EURO at the top and the series inscription JOYAS DEL MUSEO CASA DE LA MONEDA along the lower arc, along with the Madrid Mint mark M appearing twice in the outer field.
