Obverse description Brown-violet and dark blue on multicolour underprint, with Chapa 6 designation. An intaglio portrait of writer and journalist Ramalho Ortigão is positioned at right, while the Portuguese Coat of Arms appears at centre. Intricate guilloche patterns frame the composition throughout.

Reverse description Printed in blue-green, the reverse carries an oval allegorical female head vignette at left, set against an elaborate guilloche border. The central vignette presents a detailed architectural rendering of the Mosteiro de Leça do Balio, a medieval Hospitaller monastery, with the denomination numeral 50 repeated in each corner. The issuer name spans the upper register in bold serif lettering flanking a central cartouche.
