| Reverse description | The Arms of Swaziland displayed in the centre field, featuring a shield charged with traditional Swazi motifs, supported by a lion passant to the left and an elephant to the right, both standing on a grassy compartment. Above the shield rises a Swazi fighting shield flanked by two assegais and a staff bearing feathers. A scroll beneath the supporters carries the motto 'SIYINQABA'. The country name 'SWAZILAND' arcs along the upper legend, while the denomination '50 EMALANGENI' is inscribed in two lines in the lower field, all within a beaded border. |

Issued to mark three decades of Swazi independence from Britain, achieved in 1968 under King Sobhuza II — who would go on to reign until 1982, making him one of the longest-serving monarchs of the 20th century. The Central Bank commissioned this piece during the rule of his successor, King Mswati III, who assumed the throne in 1986 after a regency period following Sobhuza's death.
Gold-plated silver issues of this type were a common commemorative vehicle in the 1990s, and the .999 fine silver substrate at least ensures the core is honest.
