The Marshall Islands sits at the geographic center of the Pacific Theater's most violent campaigns — Kwajalein, Eniwetok, and Majuro were all seized from Japanese forces in early 1944 during Operation Flintlock, with Kwajalein Atoll falling in under four days at a cost of nearly 8,000 casualties combined. The Marshall Islands itself issued commemorative coinage aggressively throughout the 1990s, with dozens of silver rounds marketed primarily to collectors rather than circulated as currency.
