Reverse description The reverse presents a finely detailed portrait bust of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, facing slightly to the left in a style reminiscent of his well-known portraiture. The legend III U.S. PRESIDENT · THOMAS JEFFERSON arcs along the upper field. His presidential term dates 1801 and 1809 appear in the field to the left and right of the portrait respectively. The denomination $50 is inscribed in the lower exergue. The portrait is rendered with careful attention to Jefferson's characteristic features, including his distinctive high-collared coat and flowing hair.
