Obverse description Helmeted bust of Minerva facing left, depicted in high relief with flowing hair visible beneath a classical Corinthian-style helmet adorned with a laurel branch on the visor and a prominent crest of radiating lines. The effigy is draped in armor with scale detailing at the shoulder. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in two lines to the left of the bust, while the Roman numeral date MCMXV is inscribed in a curved band below the portrait. The outer legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, and FIFTY DOLLARS curves along the lower border, all separated from the central design by a beaded inner circle, with decorative foliate devices occupying the angles of the octagonal field.
