Palau's large-format silver issues of this period were produced under contract by the Münze Österreich (Austrian Mint), which has manufactured collector coins for dozens of Pacific island nations holding nominal sovereignty but no domestic minting infrastructure. The Nasrid reference points to the Emirate of Granada, the last Muslim-ruled polity on the Iberian Peninsula, which survived until 1492 — its court architecture, particularly the Alhambra palace complex, remains the defining visual source for what Western collectors label "Nasrid style."
