The 2022 date marks Jamaica's 60th independence anniversary, and the Bank of Jamaica issued this note specifically to commemorate it — a commemorative function that justified the move to SAFEGUARD™ polymer substrate, De La Rue's proprietary platform, which the bank had not used for the 50 Dollar denomination before. Jamaica had been gradually introducing polymer into its circulating series, but this note accelerated that transition by tying it to a politically visible occasion.
The transparent window is integral to the SAFEGUARD™ construction rather than a separately applied feature — it is formed directly in the substrate during manufacture.
