The effigy is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The circumferential legend reads 'THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS' along the upper arc and 'ELIZABETH II' along the lower arc, both separated by raised dots. The coin is bordered by a fine beaded inner circle. |

| Reverse description | Two West Indian flamingos face one another in the central field, their sinuous necks forming an elegant curve, set against a rising sun over water with tropical foliage flanking the composition on either side. The scene is depicted in fine relief with meticulous detailing of plumage and vegetation. The upper arc bears the legend 'INDEPENDENCE 1973' and the lower arc carries the denomination 'FIFTY DOLLARS', both separated by raised dots. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border and was executed by John Pinches Medallist Ltd. |
