| Obverse description | Predominantly green note with a fine guilloche underprint in multicolour tones. The left half is occupied by a large intaglio vignette of the HSBC bronze lion statue, rendered in dark green with exceptional sculptural detail. The denomination numeral '50' appears in the upper left in green with a red-orange colour-shift effect, while the issuer's bilingual name runs across the top; the promise-to-pay text, Chinese denomination 港幣伍拾元, signature of the Executive Director, and date of issue are set centrally against a decorative geometric background. |
