| Reverse description | Central device depicts the royal coat of arms of Brunei Darussalam, featuring the traditional crest with wings, parasols, and hanging tassels, rendered in high relief against a polished field. The dates '1967' and '2017' flank the arms in the middle field, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Sultan's accession. The denomination '$50' appears in bold below the central device. Surrounding the design, a Jawi Arabic inscription arcs around the upper and lateral periphery, with the Latin legend 'AUTORITI MONETARI BRUNEI DARUSSALAM' completing the lower arc. |

| Additional information |
Hassanal Bolkiah ascended to the Sultanate in 1967, two years before Brunei's currency board was even established, making his reign older than the monetary institutions that now issue his commemoratives. The 50th anniversary of his accession in 2017 coincided with one of the longest uninterrupted reigns of any living head of state — he has ruled without a prime ministerial counterpart since dismissing his brother Mohamed Bolkiah from that position in 1986 and assuming the role himself.
KM#101 is a low-mintage proof issue; Brunei's commemorative silver series consistently sees restricted distribution through AMBD's direct channels rather than secondary markets.
