Obverse description The central field displays the official Seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, depicting a traditional Marshallese sailing canoe, a coconut palm, an atoll shoreline, a frigate bird in flight, a sun with radiating rays, and various cultural emblems, all enclosed within a decorative chain border. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination $50 appears to the left and the date 1989 to the right within the border. The Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN is inscribed along the lower periphery. The design is executed in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field.
