| Obverse description | At center, the Lion of Judah passant to the right, wearing an imperial crown and carrying a cross-topped staff with a banner, rendered in high relief against a polished field. A bilingual legend in Ge'ez script arcs around the upper portion of the coin, while the Latin inscription EMPIRE OF ETHIOPIA and the denomination E$50 arc along the lower rim.
