Reverse description The crowned Lion of Judah, the traditional heraldic symbol of the Ethiopian Empire, is depicted passant to the right in high relief, bearing a cross-topped staff with a streaming banner in its right forepaw. A Ge'ez circular legend occupies the upper field and flanking areas of the coin. The Latin inscription 'EMPIRE OF ETHIOPIA E$50' curves along the lower rim, accompanied by the date '-1972-' in the lower central field, completing the bilingual heraldic composition.
