| Obverse description | The obverse displays the crowned coat of arms of Niue at centre, surmounted by a royal crown. The quartered shield bears, in the first quarter, four five-pointed stars representing the Southern Cross; in the second and third quarters, three sailing vessels; in the fourth quarter, a sheaf and crossed tools. The shield is flanked on either side by sprigs of fern rendered in high relief. The legend NIUE appears along the upper left rim and the date 1987 along the upper right rim, both in Latin characters. |
