Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Raphael David Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace. The legend ELIZABETH THE SECOND arcs across the upper field, with BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS continuing to the right. The date 1988 appears in the lower field flanked by raised dots, and the engraver's initials RDM are present near the truncation.

The copyright symbol, mint initials FM, date 88, and fineness notation .500 FINE GOLD appear along the lower right periphery. A beaded border frames the entire reverse composition.
