Obverse description At right, a front-facing crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Kokoshnik Tiara, rendered in intaglio. The centre vignette presents the Altun Ha Maya temple, with the Coat of Arms of Belize at lower right and a vignette of a queen angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris) at upper left. The obverse lettering references the Third Anniversary of Independence, with the national motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO and the denomination $50 incorporated into the design.

Reverse description The central vignette portrays an armadillo set against decorative underprint, flanked at left by a jaguar (Panthera onca) before a palm tree. At upper right, a left-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the State Diadem is inset, while at right a carved jade head of the Maya sun god Kinich Ahau appears as a secondary vignette. The reverse carries the full legal tender inscription with the denomination in words and the signatures of three Bank officials.
