Additional information

Canada's "An Emerging Country" kilo-class series draws on Library and Archives Canada holdings to reproduce historical photographs on coin surfaces — a technical process requiring exceptionally fine die engraving to render photographic tonal gradations in metal. The .9999 fine silver specification, unusually pure even by modern bullion standards, was chosen specifically because the alloy's softness allows the laser-engraved dies to transfer finer detail than sterling would permit.
