Additional information

The 2007 Lunar Pig completed the first full twelve-year cycle of Perth Mint's Gold Lunar Series I, which launched in 1996 with the Year of the Rat. Finishing a complete set in fine gold became a genuine collector preoccupation through the late 1990s and 2000s, and the Pig — as the terminal issue — commanded secondary-market premiums well above its bullion content almost immediately after release.

The .9999 fineness was a deliberate commercial decision to undercut the Royal Canadian Mint's Maple Leaf on purity claims, a rivalry that shaped Australian bullion strategy throughout this period.
