Additional information

Australia's bullion proof program at Perth has long used native fauna as a vehicle for releasing fractional and non-standard weight gold pieces to collector markets, and the Common Wombat issue of 2007 falls squarely within that commercial strategy. Perth's .9999 fineness was a deliberate point of competitive differentiation from the Royal Canadian Mint's .9999 Maple Leaf program, which had dominated the fine gold collector market through the 1980s and 1990s.

Mintage for this issue was tightly capped, as is standard for Perth's proof bullion releases — the certificate of authenticity is the only reliable documentation of individual piece provenance.
