Additional information

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle bullion series, launched by the Perth Mint in 2014, was designed to compete directly with established raptor-themed issues like the Canadian Maple Leaf and the Austrian Philharmonic in the high-purity investment market. The bimetallic format — fine gold centre set within a fine silver ring — requires a separate bonding strike after both components are individually produced, a technically demanding process that the Perth Mint developed in-house.

The 2016 issue is the third in the series. Each year carries a unique reverse design, making date-specific collecting a deliberate part of the program's commercial strategy.
