Obverse description The third effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, rendered by sculptor Raphael David Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the King George IV State Diadem and draped robes. The portrait is set within a beaded inner border, with the legend arcing around the upper periphery. The denomination and issuer country appear as part of the surrounding legend in the field.

Reverse description A koala is depicted in high relief, seated and facing outward while clinging to the fork of a eucalyptus (gum) tree branch, with foliage visible to either side. The design occupies the majority of the coin's field, conveying a naturalistic and detailed rendering of the animal's fur texture. The legend THE AUSTRALIAN KOALA arcs along the upper border, while the specifications 1/2 OZ 9995 PLATINUM appear to the right. The engraver's initials JB appear in the lower left field, and the year of issue 1992 is inscribed along the lower rim.
