Otoko wa Tsurai yo — "It's Tough Being a Man" — ran as a theatrical film series in Japan from 1969 to 1995, producing 48 installments and entering the Guinness World Records as the longest-running film series with the same lead actor. Kiyoshi Atsumi played the wandering peddler Tora-san across all 48 films until his death ended the series. A 49th film appeared in 2019 using archival footage.
Cook Islands has issued gold under its own authority since the 1970s, functioning as a vehicle for commemorative programs well outside its domestic economy.
