The Wedge-tailed Eagle bullion series has run from Perth since 1992, making it one of Australia's longest-standing annual gold issues. This bimetallic proof format — fine gold center set within a fine silver ring — is a production challenge that Perth has refined over decades, requiring precise tolerances to prevent galvanic corrosion at the join and to maintain proof surfaces across two metals with different hardnesses. Charles III's first portrait on Australian coinage, sculpted by King's official effigy artist Jody Clark, appeared following the September 2022 accession and began appearing on Perth issues progressively through 2023 and 2024.
