The 2025 date marks only the second year this series has carried Charles III's effigy, following the transition from Elizabeth II's portrait after her death in September 2022. Perth Mint's Koala gold bullion program dates to 1980, making it one of the longer-running Australian precious metal series — but the proof variants, struck to a higher standard with polished dies and frosted devices, have always been issued in strictly limited numbers against the open-ended bullion run. The 15.553g weight corresponds exactly to one troy ounce divided by two — a half-ounce denomination that sees considerably lower collector demand than its one-ounce counterpart, keeping production figures modest.
