Samoa has become one of the more prolific issuers of novelty legal tender through arrangements with the New Zealand-based Coin Mint, producing collector pieces that have no practical circulation history whatsoever. This Haribo piece is part of a broader wave of shaped and lenticular coin contracts that licensing departments at major consumer brands began signing with small sovereign mints around 2015 — Haribo's legal team approved numismatic use of the Goldbear trademark for exactly this kind of limited collector issue.
The "3D" designation refers to a domed or lenticular striking technique, not a separate denomination series. One troy ounce of .999 gold at current spot makes the face value purely nominal.
