Obverse description Black intaglio print on white cotton paper. A central vignette presents a seated allegorical female figure in classical robes resting against a harbour scene with vessels visible in the background, flanked on each side by large guilloche-framed numeral '50' counters. The upper legend reads 'DOMINION OF CANADA' with 'BANK OF HAMILTON' in bold letters across the centre, and the denomination 'FIFTY DOLLARS ON DEMAND' appears at the foot, above the issue date 'HAMILTON, ONT., 1ST JUNE 1914' and two manuscript signatures.

'BANK OF HAMILTON' is inscribed across the top and 'DOMINION OF CANADA' along the lower margin, with the imprint of the American Bank Note Company at the foot.
