The UAE Central Bank was established in 1980, replacing the Currency Board that had managed the dirham since its introduction in 1973. The tenth anniversary issue commemorates an institution that had, within its first decade, navigated the monetary pressures of oil price volatility and the regional economic disruptions following the Iranian Revolution — no small task for a currency union still consolidating seven emirates under a single monetary framework.
