Additional information

Struck to commemorate the Green March of October–November 1975, in which Hassan II organized the peaceful advance of 350,000 Moroccan civilians into the Spanish-administered Western Sahara. The operation forced Spain — already destabilized by Franco's terminal illness — to the negotiating table within days. The Madrid Accords followed in November, transferring administrative control to Morocco and Mauritania.

The coin was issued in 1976, after the accords had taken effect, making it as much a victory declaration as a commemoration.
