Reverse description A half-length effigy of Charlemagne facing left dominates the field, depicted in imperial regalia with a jewelled crown, ermine-trimmed mantle, and chainmail armour. In his right hand he holds a sceptre topped with a cross, while his left hand cradles an orb surmounted by a cross. The engraver's signature BREITHOLZ appears in the lower right field. The legend CAROLUS MAGNUS is inscribed in two arcing lines across the upper portion of the field, all within a beaded border.
