Additional information

Kuwait's 50th National Day in 2011 marked both the anniversary of independence from Britain in 1961 and the 20th anniversary of liberation from Iraqi occupation — the latter still raw enough in public memory that the dual commemoration carried genuine political weight. The 155-gram format places this squarely in the five-troy-ounce commemorative category favored by Gulf states for prestige issues during the oil-revenue-flush years following the mid-2000s price surge.

KM#40 is a low-mintage issue; surviving examples almost universally appear in original capsule, having never approached circulation.
