| Obverse description | Draped bust of Liberty facing left, her flowing hair adorned with a tiara and a row of small five-pointed stars encircling the crown of the head, each star representing one of the Brazilian states. The peripheral legend REPUBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL runs along the upper and left rim, while the lower portion of the legend continues beneath the truncation. The effigy is rendered in a classical allegorical style typical of Brazilian coinage of the mid-twentieth century. |
