Obverse description The large denomination numeral '50' occupies the centre of the field in bold raised lettering, with the currency designation 'COLONES' inscribed below. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA' arcs along the upper periphery, while a secondary inner legend 'BANCO CENTRAL DE COSTA RICA' curves beneath it. Two raised circular pellets flank the lower field, and geometric security elements are visible at the bottom rim, all set within a plain inner border and a raised outer rim.

Reverse description A full-colour naturalistic depiction of a silky anole (Norops sericeus) perched upon a rounded rock occupies the centre of the field, rendered in vivid acrylic colourisation showing the lizard's brown dorsal scales and its prominently extended dewlap coloured in yellow and blue. The habitat legend 'BOSQUE TROPICAL SECO' arcs boldly along the upper and right periphery in large raised lettering. The date '2023' appears vertically along the left field margin. Below the central motif, the common name 'Lagartija o anolis' and the scientific binomial 'Norops sericeus' are inscribed in two lines. A stylised silhouette of the Costa Rican territory is subtly incorporated into the background design behind the lizard.
