Obverse description The South African coat of arms is depicted at centre, enclosed within a nonagonal border. The arms feature the secretary bird displayed above a shield, with two human figures in greeting below, and a spear and knobkierie on either side. The national motto '!KE E: |XARRA ||KE' is inscribed in the Khoisan (San) language along the base of the shield. The legend 'SOUTH AFRICA' and 'AFRIKA-DZONGA' — the country name in English and Tsonga respectively — appear within the design, along with the date '2013'.
