Fiji has operated as a licensing vehicle for novelty bullion issues since the early 2010s, lending its sovereign imprimatur to coins that have no domestic circulation function and are produced entirely for the collector export market. The RoboCop franchise, originally a 1987 Paul Verhoeven production distributed by Orion Pictures, has passed through several ownership chains — most recently held by MGM — which licenses the image rights for merchandise including numismatic products.
The KM#1235 reference places this in a long sequence of similar Fijian-issued pop culture rounds. Functionally a silver round in legal tender dress.
