Obverse description Central device depicts a large three-masted sailing ship rendered in fine detail, with full rigging and a flag at the stern, riding at anchor in calm waters. In the foreground, a small rowing boat with several figures approaches the vessel. The central motif is framed on either side by symmetrical oak branches tied at the base, forming a decorative wreath. The legend SAINT HELENA arcs across the upper field in incuse serif capital letters.

Reverse description The reverse is bisected by a vertical line dividing the field into two halves, evoking the design language of euro coinage. To the left, a crowned lion passant guardant rears against a circular shield adorned with a ring of twelve stars, grasping a sword, rendered in a heraldic style derived from the arms of Saint Helena. To the right, the large numeral 50 occupies the field in bold relief, denoting the face value. The design is contained within a plain raised rim.
