Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, flanked by two supporters — bare-chested woodcutters, one bearing an axe and the other a paddle — standing on either side of the shield, which is quartered with crossed tools in the upper division and a sailing ship in the lower. A mahogany tree rises above the shield. The arms are enclosed within an open wreath of olive branches. The country name BELIZE arcs along the upper legend, while the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO appears on a scroll below the shield, and the date 1976 is positioned at the bottom of the field. A beaded border encircles the entire design.
