Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield displaying crossed tools and a sailing ship, flanked by two bare-chested woodcutter supporters, each bearing an axe or paddle over the shoulder. A mahogany tree surmounts the shield as a crest, and a scroll below bears the national motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO. The entire device is encircled by a wreath of olive branches, with the country name BELIZE arching above and the date 1974 appearing below. A beaded border runs along the inner rim.

Reverse description Three magnificent frigatebirds (Fregata magnificens) are depicted in dynamic flight across the open field, their characteristic angular, deeply forked tails and long pointed wings rendered in fine sculptural relief against a deeply mirrored proof surface. The birds are arranged at varying heights and angles, conveying a sense of soaring movement. The denomination legend FIFTY CENTS curves along the upper portion of the field inside the beaded border, which encircles the entire design.
