Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing crossed tools and a sailing ship, flanked by two mestizo supporters, with a mahogany tree rising behind the shield. The entire device is encircled by a wreath of olive branches. The country name BELIZE arcs along the upper legend, the date 1984 appears in the lower field, and the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO is inscribed on a scroll at the base of the arms. A beaded border runs along the inner rim.

Reverse description Three magnificent frigatebirds (Fregata magnificens) are depicted in dynamic soaring flight across the central field, rendered with fine feather detail and characteristic forked tails and long angular wings. The denomination legend 50 CENTS arcs along the upper portion of the field above the birds. A beaded border follows the inner rim.
